FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Folder To Text?
Folder To Text is a macOS application that converts folder structures and file contents into text format. It's perfect for documenting projects, sharing code structures, or creating text-based representations of your file systems.
What file types are supported?
The app supports all text-based file formats including code files (.js, .py, .swift, etc.), documentation (.md, .txt), configuration files (.json, .xml, .yaml), and more. Binary files are listed but their contents are not included.
How do I use the app?
Simply drag and drop a folder onto the app window, or use the folder selection button. The app will scan the folder structure and generate a text output that you can copy, save, or export.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All processing happens locally on your Mac. No data is sent to external servers or collected by us. Your files never leave your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I customize the output format?
Yes. The app offers various project templates (Swift/iOS, Web Development, Python, etc.) and allows you to specify which file types to extract or ignore. You can also save your own custom templates for frequently used configurations.
What are the system requirements?
Folder To Text requires macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later. The app is optimized for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
How do I report a bug?
Please email us at support@metajournal.sh with a description of the issue, your macOS version, and steps to reproduce the problem if possible.
Is there a file size limit?
While there's no hard limit, very large folders with thousands of files may take longer to process. The app handles most typical project sizes efficiently.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • App won't open: Ensure you're running macOS 12.0 or later. Try right-clicking and selecting "Open" if you see a security warning.
  • Folder won't process: Check that you have read permissions for the folder. Some system folders may be restricted.
  • Output is truncated: For very large outputs, try using the export feature instead of copying to clipboard.
  • Drag and drop not working: Ensure the app has proper permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
